Case Study:
Symcor
Symcor was established to serve the check and payment processing needs of three of Canada’s largest banks.
Overview
Symcor was established to serve the check and payment processing needs of three of Canada’s largest banks. It since has expanded to serve clients across North America in industries including wealth management, brokerage, insurance, telecommunications and retail. Symcor’s payment processing needs are distributed across regional centers in Canada and the United States. These centers used single-purpose scanners provided by a variety of manufacturers and consequently, they could not leverage the efficiencies of a common platform.
Business Need
Symcor sought a solution to handle rapidly expanding volumes in document management and wholesale image lockbox, manage a diverse multi-document environment, and operate on a universal platform.
BancTec’s Solution
BancTec recommended a solution centered on IntelliScan DS9000 (predecessor to the IntelliScan XDS), an ultra-high-speed, mixed-document scanner that digitizes and processes as many as 95,000 documents in an eight-hour shift. The new scanner was integrated with Symcor’s applications at its corporate headquarters and each of its regional operating centers.
The Results
Operating at full capacity, the IntelliScan DS9000 has offset unit costs, lowered maintenance fees and protected Symcor’s customers from future price increases.
In the Client’s Words
“The DS9000 solution offers us greater efficiency and higher throughput when processing any type of document, from wholesale remittance checks to invoices and payments. It also allows us to speak to our clients about how Symcor will be able to contain its costs in the future.”
“The BancTec product was much more flexible than the other vendors’ solutions we considered. We are very pleased with how they shared our vision of implementing a universal capture device that would scan and convert paper into images on a common infrastructure.”
